This is a follow-up on the post “On The Collapse of Civilizations” which shows that we might be driving towards the collapse of our own civilization. This post presents an additional driving factor to the collapse.

Today one of the main protector of our civilization has been the use of the media concentrated in the hand of people from the top of the pyramid. It has been used as a tool of propaganda to legitimate the current structures. Today, this media is getting weaker and weaker because of the growth of social media technologies that enables uncensored flow of information and presents a picture that is very different from the one that has been presented for decades.

For instance the recent crack down on the illegal distribution of entertainment media is represented in the classic media as a legitimate fight of deserving companies against awful pirates. A different story filters through the new media: entertainment media companies have refused to acknowledge the new reality and are trying to hang on to a business model that is archaic. In short the people who run the entertainment media companies are blind and pirating is a direct consequence of their total lack of vision.

In this case, the question is: “will forces of change destroy the entire entertainment media business and force it to restart from nothing?” I believe the answer is no. The emergence of young entertainment media businesses that use appropriate models is proof that there will likely be a shift, not a collapse.

Is this what will happen to our civilization?
